Qualification Description
This qualification provides a trade outcome in solid plastering for residential and commercial work. The qualification includes core units of competency that cover common skills for the construction industry, together with specialist solid plastering skills.
Solid plasterers apply plaster, cement and other mixtures to walls and surfaces to create smooth or decorative finishes for interior walls and render exterior surfaces. Occupational titles may include:
- Solid Plasterer
- Renderer
This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway and may be used as a pathway into higher-level building and construction qualifications.

- Practical workshop-based training

Students are required to attend scheduled classes and practical training sessions and complete all assessment activities.

Course duration
- Duration: 52 Weeks Total Duration.
- 44 Weeks of Training and Assessment.
- 8 Weeks of Scheduled Term Breaks.
Weekly Study Commitment
- 15 hours face-to-face classroom and practical training
- 5 hours Online learning activities
Total Scheduled Learning: 20 hours per week
Supplementary classes may be scheduled where required due to public holidays, missed classes, or reassessment requirements.
Students who successfully complete this qualification may progress to:
- CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction
- CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)
Additional pathway opportunities may be available depending on individual career goals and industry requirements.
International students must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have completed Year 12 or equivalent.
- Participate in a pre-enrolment interview and pre-training review.
- Demonstrate sufficient Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills.
- Provide evidence of English language proficiency equivalent to:
- IELTS Overall Band Score of 6.0; or
- An equivalent recognised English language test score.
English language evidence may also be demonstrated through previous studies completed in English, subject to college assessment requirements.
Students must be physically capable of undertaking practical construction activities, including:
- Standing for extended periods
- Lifting and carrying construction materials
- Using hand and power tools
- Working at heights
- Performing practical tasks in workshop and simulated work environments
Students must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during practical training and workshop activities.
PPE may include:
- Safety boots
- High-visibility clothing
- Safety glasses
- Gloves
- Hard hat
- Hearing protection
Students must comply with all workplace health and safety requirements and trainer instructions during practical sessions.
